Pushing the boundaries @CABD
Life -self-building, self-perpetuating structures- shows a hierarchical organization, in which each level in this organization is intertwined with the preceding and succeeding ones. One trait of life built in this hierarchical organization is its adaptability: the capacity to respond to changes to maintain its structure along distinct time scales.
The ALIS Project aims at understanding the bridging between levels and how this bridging allows adaptability (homeostasis, plasticity, evolution, all manifestations of the learning ability of living systems) through theory, modeling and experimentation.
Although Life as we know it is organic, the principles bridging scales and allowing adaptability should be applicable to any type of life, natural or artificial.
The ALiS project is born at the Andalusian Center for Developmental Biology inspired by the adaptability observed during embryonic development and evolution.
